Majlis Ash-Shura of New York Condemns Illegal Seizure of Palestinian Land and Defends Advocacy for Justice

New York, NY – [2/24/2025] The Majlis Ash-Shura of New York (Islamic Leadership Council of New York), which represents over 90 mosques and organizations, firmly opposes the increasing wave of hatred and the unfounded claims being directed at Muslims as perpetrators of antisemitism. These accusations are not only factually inaccurate but also represent a perilous effort to silence and undermine Muslims who advocate for justice and human rights.

We are observing a troubling narrative that inaccurately characterizes Muslims as antisemitic merely for showing solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian community. This damaging discourse attempts to conflate criticism of Israeli policies with animosity towards Jewish individuals, which is a serious distortion that hinders authentic dialogue and peace efforts. We denounce all forms of hatred, including antisemitism, Islamophobia, or any other type of discrimination. Holding a government accountable or advocating for the rights of marginalized individuals is not antisemitism; it is an expression of justice and empathy.

Moreover, the Majlis Ash-Shura of New York continues to resist the ongoing sale and seizure of Palestinian territories, particularly those that have been taken through unlawful means in the occupied West Bank. The sale of these lands, often facilitated by those with vested interests in the occupation, constitutes a blatant violation of international law and the basic rights of the Palestinian populace. The Palestinian people are being stripped of their homes, land, and means of livelihood through these unlawful transactions, further exacerbating their suffering and displacement.

We urge the global community to hold accountable those engaged in the illegal sale of Palestinian lands and those who attempt to silence advocates for Palestinian rights by unjustly labeling them as antisemitic. The struggle for Palestinian justice is a quest for human dignity and must not be equated with animosity towards any religious or ethnic group.

The Majlis Ash-Shura of New York stands resolutely against all forms of hatred and discrimination, and we will persist in advocating for the rights of Palestinians while rejecting any attempts to tarnish our efforts with false allegations. We call upon all individuals of conscience to join us in supporting justice, peace, and equality for all, irrespective of faith or ethnicity.
