Majlis Ash-Shura New York Condemns Inclusion of Anti-Muslim Float at New York City’s India Day Parade

New York, NY – [8/4/2024]: Majlis Ash-Shura: Islamic Leadership Council of New York strongly condemns the planned inclusion of an anti-Muslim float in the upcoming India Day Parade. This float, organized by far-right groups, aims to propagate hate and incite fear among American Muslims by glorifying symbols of violence and religious intolerance.

The float, representing the Ram Temple, not only celebrates the demolition of the Babri Mosque but also stands as a stark reminder of historical injustices and ongoing violence against Muslims. Such displays are contrary to the values of inclusivity and tolerance that New York City prides itself on.

Majlis Ash-Shura of New York, founded in 1989, represents over 90 mosques and Muslim organizations, serving as a unified voice for the Muslim community in advocacy, social justice, and community development. The organization calls upon Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Eric Adams to take immediate action to prevent the inclusion of this inflammatory float in the parade. It is imperative to protect the harmony and safety of all residents in New York City.

We urge all community leaders and residents to stand against this attempt to sow division and to ensure that our city remains a beacon of tolerance and respect for all.
